Whale Bells

The Langley Whale Bell at
The Whale Bell Park
(Official name is Thomas Hladkey Memorial Park)

When the whales are near Langley, the whole town knows it! When someone spots a whale, they ring the brass bell at Seawall Park.

The beautiful bell was a community project. The bell itself was donated to Langley by Susan Berta of Orca Network. An Eagle Scout, Michael Scullin, worked with sculptor Tim Leonard to design and install the bell frame and nearby signs.

Be sure to see the bell when you visit Langley. With luck, it will be ringing!

The Whale Bell at
the Coupeville Wharf

After much effort, energy, fundraising, and volunteer hours the Orca Network’s Coupeville Whale Bell was unveiled and rung for the first time on Saturday, June 3, 2017.

The antique (refurbished) bell was donated by Coupeville’s Matt Iverson and attached to a carved whale by Coupeville artist Jim Short. The carving was created in Alaskan yellow cedar. Regional Native American Tribal art and the late Roger Purdue inspired the bell’s carving, and the Whale Wheel at the end of the Coupeville Wharf.

Many thanks to the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce and the Port of Coupeville for their partnership and support!
